It’s Hard to Do New Things!

Doing new things is scary. Even when others have gone before you and mapped the way and set up guard rails, signs and even lights. Even when you are fully equipped with said map and water and a lantern and six weeks’ worth of rations and a phone to call for help and…gulp…I’m already shaking and sweating! It’s not like I’m spelunking in a new cave or colonizing Mars. I’m starting a blog…on my own website. I’m starting a YouTube channel. I’m opening an Etsy shop. I’m starting my own business. What’s there to be scared of? Failure? I’m already NOT successful because I’ve only barely begun. Am I scared of what people will say? Not really. I already know my start will be rocky and not perfectly polished. Am I scared of wasting my time and energy? Maybe a little, but I’ll never know if something will work or not unless I put time and effort into it. Regardless, our brains see new things as a danger and a threat, and the only way to overcome that is to do the thing. Pure and simple.

I don’t know what in the blazes I’m doing! I don’t know if this is a great idea or a horrible idea. I’m bumbling and stumbling my way into new territory, and I will most likely look back on this and cringe, BUT the point of doing new things is to stretch your horizons, challenge yourself, learn, grow, and realize that you can do more than you think you can. You can decide in the end that it’s not your thing, but you tried, you still learned from it, and more than likely your confidence has increased.

So, you’re welcome to join me as I figure things out on this blog and refine this website into what I am ultimately envisioning. As soon as I figure out how to get the comments section up and running, ya’ll can more actively participate. I’d rather take things slowly, one piece at a time than rush and overwhelm myself with stuff I don’t understand. Really, I’m sure I’m just speaking into the void at this point; I don’t expect anyone to be on my website this soon, so I’m not going to worry about making this perfect. Just working on getting things set up and dipping my toes in the water before I wade out into the treacherous kiddie pool.

That’s all for now. Be back soon!
